We're learning about the components of the temperate forest. Inviting very wiggly worms into our classroom, and making homes for them was our fun this week! We'll be predicting, observing, and recording our observations over the next few weeks. Thanks to Jordan Clark (Colt's mom) and Kirstie Wignall (Aidan's mom), for helping us harness these critters, and for snapping these fun photos!
As you know, in our ongoing study of the Temperate Forest we read many interesting facts about earthworms. One thing we learned is that they often have a lifespan of up to 2 years, if the conditions are right. We enjoyed making the homes for our worms, and we liked being able to observe them during their stay in our classroom. However we decided that the worms themselves might be happier and live longer, fuller lives if we let them go back into their natural habitat, outdoors.
So after several weeks of study, we took our 28 earthworms out to the schoolyard and released them into a pile of leaves under a tree. The worms seemed appreciative and quickly wiggled away.
